# Elevator Pitch

## When To Use
Someone says "tell me about yourself" at a fair or on a call and you freeze, or you recite your CV top to bottom. This skill answers: what do I say in the first 30 seconds, and how do I hand the conversation back?

## When Not To Use
To rehearse a whole call, with follow-up questions and awkward pauses, run Practice Conversation. If you cannot yet say what you are curious about, run Networking Brief first.

## Inputs
- Your Networking Brief, or the roles you are curious about
- Your CV, or one or two real things you have done (a project, a placement, a job, a society role)
- Where you will use it: a fair stand, an alumni call or a virtual fair chat
If you have none of this, I start from your course, your year and one thing you did that you enjoyed, and mark the output as a first draft.

## Approach
TARGETjobs graduate job fairs advice asks for a brief personal pitch, and UK university careers guidance suggests a line or two as a standard introduction. This is a self-introduction, not a sales pitch. The judgment is in the example: one real thing you did, said simply, beats a list of adjectives. The failure it prevents is the memorised advert ("passionate, driven, results-focused") that a recruiter has heard all day and you cannot say without sounding like someone else.

## Workflow
1. Ask at most three questions: where you will use it first, the one example you are proudest of, and what you genuinely want to learn from the other person.
2. Give points for three parts: who you are (course, year or graduation, one line), what you are curious about (from the brief), one real example from your CV or your own words.
3. You write the pitch in your own words from the points. Claude may only tighten grammar; it does not rewrite your voice or add claims.
4. Read-aloud check: about 30 seconds spoken at a normal pace. Flag anything that sounds like an advert, any claim without an example behind it and any jargon you would not use out loud.
5. Cut a 10-second version for a queue or a chat box: who you are and what you are curious about.
6. Add one open question that hands the conversation to the other person, and note the variant for each setting: fair stand, alumni call, virtual fair chat (written, in full sentences).

## Output Format
```markdown
# Elevator Pitch
## Points
| Part | Point | From |
|---|---|---|
| Who I am | [course, year, one line] | [CV / my words] |
| What I am curious about | [from the brief] | [brief] |
| One real example | [what I did, simply] | [CV / my words] |
## My 30-second version (written by me)
[your own words]
## My 10-second version
[your own words]
## Handover question
- [one open question]
## Variants
| Setting | What changes |
|---|---|
| Fair stand / alumni call / virtual fair chat | [note] |
## Flags from the read-aloud check
- [phrase that sounds like an advert or an unsupported claim]
## Decision
You say it aloud and settle your final version before your next fair or call.
```

## Done When
- All three parts trace to your CV, your brief or your own words
- The 30-second and 10-second versions are written by you
- The pitch ends with one open question
- Every flag from the read-aloud check is fixed or kept by your choice

## Quality Bar
- One real example, never a list of qualities; it should sound like you talking, not a cover letter
- No skill, result or experience Claude added
- The handover question is genuine, not a test of the recruiter
- The pitch uses only real examples you gave; you write it and say it in your own words

## Next
Run gnet-linkedin-data-export (LinkedIn Data Export Reader) to start mapping the people you already know.
